Airzone smart zoning: room-by-room control for your Costa del Sol villa
A practical guide from a certified Airzone installer covering how zoning works, which models exist, and when it makes sense for your property.
Quick answer
Airzone is a zoning system that installs on top of an existing ducted unit — Daikin, Mitsubishi and others. It divides your home into up to 8 zones with independent thermostats so you only condition rooms you are using. Typical installation takes one day. Compatible with underfloor heating via the Flexa model.

How Airzone works
Four components do the work. All install within your existing ductwork — no structural changes needed.
Your existing ducted system
Airzone is not an air conditioning system. It layers on top of your existing ducted installation — Daikin, Mitsubishi, Johnson, and others. The main unit does the work; Airzone controls where the results go.
Individual zone motors
Each room or area gets a motor behind its ceiling grille. When that zone is active the grille opens. When inactive it closes. The main unit only works as hard as the active zones require.
Per-zone thermostat
Each zone has its own thermostat — either the Blueface colour touchscreen or the simpler Lite model. The central controller coordinates the whole system and prevents the main unit from over- or under-working.
Remote control
The Airzone app gives zone-by-zone control from a phone. Useful if you manage the property remotely or want the house at temperature before you arrive.
What difference does it make in practice?
reduction in electricity use compared with running the whole system
typical installation time in a 4–6 zone villa
installed over existing ductwork — no structural changes
compatible with most ducted units installed on the Costa del Sol
Estimates based on installation experience. Results vary with usage pattern, property size and existing system.
Thermostats and models explained
Airzone offers three main products. Which you choose depends on your system (ducted or underfloor) and how much control you want on the wall.
Blueface
Airzone's top-of-range colour touchscreen thermostat. Shows temperature, mode and schedule on the wall. App control included. Typical for bedrooms and main living areas.
Lite
Lower-cost version without a wall display. The zone is controlled from the app or from another Blueface in the same installation. Suitable for utility areas, bathrooms and guest rooms.
Flexa
Airzone's version designed for underfloor heating and fan coils rather than air ducts. Controls water temperature zone by zone independently. Installed in several Mijas and Marbella villas.
Is Airzone right for your property?
- Villa or townhouse with an existing ducted system
- 4 or more rooms served by a single central unit
- Part-time-use property — guest rooms unused most of the time
- Underfloor heating you want to control zone by zone (Flexa model)
- Interested in remote phone control
- –Apartment with individual splits in each room (already have separate control)
- –Property with no existing ductwork (ducting would need to be installed first)
- –Single room or studio — not enough zones to justify the investment

Benalmádena villa: Daikin ducted + Airzone
A British couple with a 5-bedroom villa that already had a Daikin ducted unit added Airzone to control main-wing and guest-wing rooms separately. For the first time the owners could shut down rooms they were not using during short stays.
