The Problem: An Ageing Fujitsu at the End of Its Life

The owner of this classic Torremolinos holiday apartment — terracotta tiled floors, blue awnings, direct sea views — contacted Agua Therm after noticing the existing Fujitsu split system was struggling to keep up. The indoor unit was visibly yellowed and discoloured, a classic sign of ageing polycarbonate casing. The outdoor unit showed dirty grilles and rust on the mounting brackets. Key concerns included:

    • Loss of cooling performance during peak summer heat
    • Visible deterioration: yellowed indoor casing, rusty outdoor brackets
    • Old refrigerant type (pre-R32 era unit) — parts increasingly hard to source
    • Risk of complete failure mid-season in a holiday rental property

The Installation: Precise Mounting and F-Gas Commissioning

Our team completed the full replacement in a single visit. The old Fujitsu units were safely decommissioned and removed. The new Mitsubishi Electric outdoor unit was wall-mounted on the balcony using fresh brackets secured to the structural wall. Refrigerant lines were run, and the system was commissioned using a Testo digital manifold gauge set — verifying correct operating pressures and R32 charge before sign-off.

    • New Mitsubishi Electric outdoor unit wall-mounted with new brackets secured to the balcony wall
    • Indoor unit positioned above the patio door for airflow across the living room
    • R32 refrigerant system commissioned with Testo digital manifold gauges
    • Electrical connections completed and tested before sign-off
    • Full F-Gas documentation provided on completion

The Result: A Clean, Capable Split System Ready for Summer

The completed installation gives this coastal apartment a fully capable 5.0 kW (cooling) / 5.4 kW (heating) split system — both units manufactured in early 2026, as shown on the data plates. The outdoor unit sits neatly on the balcony, securely wall-mounted. The indoor unit is positioned above the patio door, directing cool air across the open-plan living room with its Mediterranean sea view. The property owner now has reliable cooling and heating through a modern R32 system with lower global warming potential than the R410A units it replaces.

R32 is classified A2L (mildly flammable) and carries a lower global warming potential than the R410A refrigerant used in older split systems. All Agua Therm engineers hold the required F-Gas Category I certification for R32 systems.

Málaga Airport is ten minutes from Torremolinos, which means there are thousands of holiday apartments managed remotely by UK owners. When the air conditioning fails in the middle of July, guests complain, bookings suffer, and the owner finds out through a negative online review. Replacing a system that's twelve to fifteen years old proactively — before it fails — is almost always the smarter decision. In this case, the new MSZ-HR50 runs R32 refrigerant, carries a fresh factory warranty, and is correctly sized for typical coastal apartment heat loads. The owner goes into the summer season with complete peace of mind.

When Is It Time to Replace Your Air Conditioning Unit?

Old split systems — especially those over 12–15 years old — will often reach a point where repair no longer makes economic sense. Signs this Fujitsu replacement was the right call:

    • Visible physical deterioration (yellowed plastic, corroded brackets, dirty coils)
    • Original refrigerant types that are now phased down under EU F-Gas regulations
    • Declining efficiency as compressor wear increases power draw
    • Parts availability becoming unreliable for older models
    • Risk of a costly breakdown during the high-demand summer months

A like-for-like replacement with a current-generation R32 inverter system — as on this Torremolinos project — is typically completed within a single day.

Why Mitsubishi Electric for This Job?

Mitsubishi Electric is one of the most respected names in residential split systems. For this coastal Torremolinos apartment, the MSZ-HR50 series was the right choice because:

    • Proven reliability — Mitsubishi Electric has manufactured heat pump technology for residential applications for decades
    • R32 refrigerant — lower environmental impact, compliant with current EU F-Gas regulations
    • IP44-rated outdoor unit — suited to salty coastal air environments common in Torremolinos
    • 5.0 kW cooling capacity — confirmed on the data plate
    • Fresh stock — both units manufactured early 2026, as confirmed on the data plates
