One Beachfront Villa, Three Systems, One English-Speaking Team

This luxury villa sits directly on the seafront in San Pedro de Alcántara, on the western side of Marbella. The owners wanted to do three things at once: generate their own electricity from the sun, store it so the home keeps running on solar power into the evening, and add modern, quiet air conditioning that runs on that same self-generated power rather than expensive grid electricity.

Rather than juggle separate solar installers, battery specialists and an air conditioning company — each with their own paperwork, in Spanish — the owners chose Agua Therm to design and deliver the whole package under one roof. Our English-speaking team handled the rooftop solar, the battery and hybrid inverter, and the Daikin ducted air conditioning as a single, coordinated project.

The result is a property that makes its own power during the day, banks the surplus in two Deye battery modules, and uses that stored energy to cool the villa through Daikin ceiling-concealed ducted units — exactly the kind of joined-up, self-consumption-first system that makes sense for a Costa del Sol home with this much sunshine.

Solar PV — Two Roofs, One Array

Few villas have a single clean roof plane large enough for a meaningful array, so we split the solar across the two roof types this property offered:

    Terracotta pitched roof

Monocrystalline 500 W panels were mounted on the main terracotta-tiled pitch, following the slope of the roof.

Flat roof on aluminium tilt frames

A second sub-array was installed on the villa's flat roof on aluminium tilt frames, angled to lift output across the year.

    A sea-view, open plot

The villa's elevated beachfront position gives the roofs an open aspect with long hours of sun — well suited to solar self-consumption on the Costa del Sol.

Battery Storage & Hybrid Inverter — Deye

Solar alone only helps while the sun is up. To make the most of it, we paired the array with battery storage and a hybrid inverter so surplus daytime solar is banked and released in the evening:

    Battery modules

    2× Deye SE-G5.1 Pro-B

Two stacked Deye SE-G5.1 Pro-B lithium battery modules, rated at 5.1 kWh each — around 10.2 kWh of usable storage to carry the villa through the evening and overnight.

    Hybrid inverter

    Deye hybrid inverter

A Deye hybrid inverter manages the solar array, the battery and the grid connection together, prioritising self-consumption: it powers the home from solar first, charges the battery with any surplus, and only draws from the grid when both are exhausted.

    DC protection

    DC isolators + Tengen breakers

The battery and PV strings are protected with dedicated DC isolation and Tengen DC breakers, with the red/black DC cabling cleanly dressed — a safe, serviceable installation rather than a tangle of cables.

    A Live Reading During Commissioning

During commissioning we captured a live snapshot from the inverter on Friday 12 June 2026 at 12:44, in midday June sun:

    5.71 kW

    Solar generation

    0.01 kW

    Grid import

    78% · charging

    Battery

    1.36 kW

    Home demand

In that moment the villa was running entirely on its own solar power — covering the home's 1.36 kW demand, pulling effectively nothing from the grid (0.01 kW), and charging the battery with the surplus. That is exactly the behaviour a self-consumption system is designed for.

    Daikin Ceiling-Concealed Ducted Air Conditioning

The final piece of the package is the cooling — and crucially, it runs on the same solar-and-battery power the rest of the system generates:

    Daikin equipment

Daikin ducted air conditioning equipment was delivered to the villa and installed as ceiling-concealed units, so the indoor units are hidden above the ceiling — a clean look that suits a property of this standard.

    Proper first-fix

The ceilings were opened up to run insulated flexible ducting, copper refrigerant line-set and control cabling back to the concealed fan coils. Doing the first-fix properly — insulated ducts, correctly sized line-sets — is what keeps a ducted system quiet and efficient for years.

    Cooling powered by the sun

Because air conditioning demand peaks on exactly the hot, sunny afternoons when the solar array is producing most, pairing the Daikin units with the solar and battery system means much of the cooling is powered by self-generated electricity instead of the grid.

    "
On a job like this the electrical side is everything. You're tying together the solar strings, a Deye hybrid inverter and two Deye battery modules, and it all has to be properly protected — DC isolation and Tengen breakers on the battery side. We set the inverter up to prioritise self-consumption: the house runs off the panels first, the surplus charges the battery, and the grid is only ever a backup. When we commissioned it, the villa was producing well over five kilowatts in the midday sun, pulling nothing from the grid and charging the battery at the same time. That's a system that's actually doing its job — and because we handle the electrics in-house, the owner has one team accountable for the whole thing.

What I like about this project is how the cooling and the solar work together. Ceiling-concealed ducted Daikin units give you quiet, even cooling without splits on every wall — far nicer in a villa like this. And air conditioning is at its hungriest on hot, bright afternoons, which is exactly when the solar array is flat out. So instead of those afternoons being your most expensive hours on the grid, the panels and the battery are carrying most of the load. Getting the first-fix right — insulated ducting, properly sized copper line-sets — is what makes a ducted system both whisper-quiet and efficient. Doing the solar, the battery and the AC as one project means it's all sized to work together from day one.
